Better Broadband – say Yes campaign
Norfolk County Council is trying to improve broadband speed for the county.
To find out more go to http://sayyestobroadband.co.uk/
The more people who register the higher up the queue Norfolk moves for a better broadband service!
There is a page for personal use and a page for business if this is appropriate. You can tick the box to say that you do not want your details used by third parties. The council needs address and contact details so that people cannot fill in the survey more than once and to see the local Broadband provision. You will not be making any commitment to signing-up for any services.
Faster Broadband will help our community and our economy as well as making learning opportunities more accessible to students.

Victorian Nights Festival and local libraries
On 18 and 19 May Cromer, Sheringham and Wells will be transported
back to the Victorian Britain thanks to a successful bid to the Heritage
Lottery Fund. The first ever Victorian Nights festival will celebrate the
lavish Victorian Age, a significant period in North Norfolk’s history,
as it heralded the coming of the railways and marked North Norfolk as
the popular holiday destination for tourists it remains today.
Participating venues in the three towns will be opening their doors
after-hours for a packed programme of special events to entertain and
amaze. The programme features Victorian fire eaters, escapologists,
an old fashioned photo parlour, fairground attractions, circus acts,
a traditional train ride, cottage craft workshops, film, guided walks
and the chance to meet lots of costumed characters. All events, the
majority of which are free, are aimed at families, the local community
and visitors to the area.
The initiative is the work of eight cultural organisations across the
three towns: Cromer Museum, RNLI Henry Blogg Museum, Cromer
Preservation Society, North Norfolk Railway, The Mo Museum,
Sheringham Little Theatre, Sheringham Preservation Society and
Wells Maltings.
There are lots of opportunities for local people to get involved with
Victorian Nights. The festival’s volunteer programme features a
range of interesting roles, from marketing, to photography, to driving
a minibus! A special volunteer scheme, in co-operation with the
Norfolk Library Service, will see 20 local people attend a certificated
literacy and blogging training course, before promoting the festival
via fortnightly blogs. A great opportunity to find out how to blog!
Find out more via this link: Victorian Nights Blogging Team – poster
A dedicated schools programme will also give
local children the opportunity to get involved via a competition and
education pack which can be used in schools. We would also like to
invite local businesses to take part in the fun by opening late during
the festival. To find out more, or to get involved, please visit the website: www.victoriannightsnorthnorfolk.com
Roadworks in Holt – Feb Half term
HOLT ROAD CLOSURES FEBRUARY
A148 Holt, Norwich Road – Surfacing Works in February
Works are programmed to begin on Saturday 11 February to repair
and resurface a section of the A148 Norwich Road, A148 Holt Bypass,
Roundabout and junctions to the B1110 Thornage Road and B1149 Norwich
Road.
The works will extend from 70m south of the roundabout at the junction
to Holt Bypass, will include the roundabout and the A148 Norwich Road
for 330m, past the junction to the High Street for 70m North towards
Letheringsett and are expected to last for 9 days duration in total. Due
to the close proximity of the works to Holt Primary School this has been
programmed during the school half term period.
In an attempt to minimise disruption and the impact to businesses and
residents of Holt, the method of traffic management used will vary. In some
locations a road closure will be required due to narrow road widths and a
requirement to renew a large number of manhole and utility covers. This is
essential to safely protect the travelling public and the work force. The County
Council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause.
The phasing of works, extents and methods of traffic control, which include
periods of road closure are as follows:
● B1149 Norwich Road: from and including roundabout junction for 20m
South towards Edgefield.
Road Closure Saturday 11 February 2012 and Sunday 12 February.
Stop Go boards to manage traffic Monday 13 February to Friday 17 February.
● B1110 Thornage Road: from and including roundabout junction for 20m
West towards Thornage.
Road Closure Saturday 11 February and Sunday 12 February.
Stop Go boards to manage traffic Monday 13 February to Friday 17 February.
● A148 Holt Bypass: from and including roundabout junction for 70m East
towards High Kelling.
Stop Go boards to manage traffic with a mandatory 10mph restriction
Saturday 11 February to Friday 17 February.
● A148 Norwich Road: from and including roundabout junction for 260m
North to the junction with the C488 High Street.
Stop Go boards to manage traffic with a mandatory 10mph and 6’ 6” width
restriction Monday 13 February to Friday 17 February.
● A148 Norwich Road: from and including the junction to the C488 High
Street for 70m North towards Letheringsett.
Road Closure Saturday 18 February and Sunday 19 February.
A fully signed diversion will be in place during road closure periods and
access to properties and businesses will be maintained from one end of the
closure at any time although it is inevitable that there may be some disruption
which may involve delays. Businesses open as usual signs will be erected
throughout the duration of the works.
The work which will cost £198,000 will be carried out by Norfolk County
Council’s Environment, Transport and Development Partnership and their
contractors.
